With the relatively recent trend of upcycling taking hold, the subject of reupholstery has seen a rise in popularity. Before this, however, the process was something a lot of people knew relatively little about. As a result, we receive a significant amount of questions from new and returning customers alike. At Collards Upholstery, we have a hard-earned reputation as customer-focused upholsterers. We operate with complete satisfaction as a priority on every job we undertake in Rainham and the surrounding areas.
Below, we have listed and answered some of the most common questions our upholsterers receive on the topic of reupholstery. If you have any further queries regarding our upholstery services, please call us on 0208 500 1121.
WHAT IS REUPHOLSTERY?
The process of reupholstery involves the removal of existing upholstery materials, usually as a result of damage or wear, and replacing them with a brand-new fabric. Like any reputable upholsterers, Collards Upholstery also updates the seat foams, padding and any damaged webbing and springs.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO REUPHOLSTER FURNITURE?
During a reupholstery project, we strip your furniture back to the wooden frame and rebuild it using new materials and components. This becomes even more intricate for furniture with scroll arms and deep buttons. Regardless of the design, however, the process itself is always detailed and complex. Various factors affect the final duration of a project, so we offer our customers in Rainham and the neighbouring areas a projected timeline of 8 to 10 weeks. We strive to shorten this where we can. Customers should also note; the furniture isn’t away for the entirety of this period.
CAN YOU REUPHOLSTER LEATHER FURNITURE?
Absolutely! We reupholster leather furniture as we do any other fabric. Our upholsterers utilise the same technique across the board, i.e. stripping back to the wooden frame and then rebuilding. Naturally, you can replace the old leather with any other fabric of your choosing.
WHAT KIND OF FABRICS DO YOU USE?
We use upholstery weight fabrics in an extensive range of colours, designs and textures. Here at Collards Upholstery we give our customers in Rainham, and any other location, the widest selection we can. Needless to say, we only use fabrics which fully comply with fire retardant regulations.
CAN YOU REUPHOLSTER IN MY HOME?
Unfortunately, no. Reupholstery is an often long and messy job, so it isn’t suited to any home. The tried-and-trusted routine involves transferring the furniture from your Rainham property to our workshop. This allows our upholsterers to work on the furniture with an unbroken focus, returning it to you with a completely new lease of life.
